Me, a mirror
Tutto nacque nella primavera del 2021 quando Giulia mi confidava la sua storia, le sue paure e le sue emozioni affrontando una vita da artista –�scelta assai difficile in un paese come l’Italia…
Giulia è una ballerina professionista, ha studiato alla Royal Academy di Londra e, dopo il diploma, ha iniziato a mettere a frutto i suoi studi sia in Italia che all’estero. Attualmente lavora sia in teatro che in alcune scuole di danza dove insegna l’arte a tanti giovani “cigni” a Roma.
Venne a trovarmi per le riprese ad ottobre dello stesso anno, si fermò per una paio di giorni così da avere il tempo di lavorare con più calma. Sì, mi piace lavorare così, prendendo il tempo necessario, senza stress.
Nel frattempo il tempo scorreva, ma qualcuno dice che il tempo è solo un’illusione, così lo abbiamo lasciato scorrere ma senza lasciar mai cadere la connessione, sentendoci di tanto in tanto per raccontarci quello che passava nelle nostre vite.
Giulia con la sua energia ha avuto una funzione di “faro illuminante” in questo progetto – è andata ben oltre il “semplice” ruolo di ballerina: e per questo le sarò sempre grato.
Ci siamo presi il tempo che ci serviva per realizzare questo Collector Box dove cerchiamo di raccontare la storia di “ordinaria follia” di Giulia – storia che, in qualche modo, fa parte di questo mio percorso nel mondo della fotografia dove cerco di raccontare qualcosa di me attraverso le storie di altre persone perché cerco di dare alla mia fotografia un significato che vada oltre al semplice “scatto”.
Come cantava Lou Reed: “Sarò il tuo specchio, rifletterò quello che sei…”.
Ordinary madness of a dancer
Who knows how it would have gone if I had liked simple things?
Chiedevo alla mia anima sfiorandomi l’orecchino destro,�e così, un po’ corrucciata, attendevo una risposta,�cercavo di farle più spazio, fino a prendere forma e sempre più materia�tra ombre e luci�ancora�sparse qua e là, scavalcando calcinacci, affacciandomi a finestre con vetri rotti che a ben guardare avevano lo stesso taglio di certi sfavillanti diamanti, oltrepassando porte e qualche portale interessante…Attraversato questo bosco di emozioni e sensazioni, cercavo di dare un ordine a quel caos con la strana percezione che stessi regnando, camminando sulle mie stesse gambe�e comandando io quel fantastico e bizzarro Regno, che�in fondo per me era naturale e familiare, come se quella polvere sotto�ai piedi�e sulle mani�fosse la stessa che avrei trovato tra le assi scricchiolanti e affascinanti di qualche vecchio importante teatro: impossibile non riconoscerla!
Iniziavo�nuovamente ad essere libera, anche se ero ancora avvolta in una sinuosa nuvola di plastica trasparente mentre cercavo di ripararmi con grandi occhiali da sole, a ricordarmi le mie stravaganti sembianze umane: stavo pur sempre rinascendo farfalla, immersa nella natura e sirena, incastonata su una gigantesca roccia�che�mi ricordava tanto sorella Luna…
Con quella luce ho giocato fino a sera, per poi accoccolarmi e rasserenarmi un po’ su quello che era diventato il mio nuovo pianeta. Mi sono sentita a casa e�mi sono lasciata andare,�pronta a nuove avventure e nuove sfide, divertita tra gli alberi, sorretta da quelle corteccia secolare e fiduciosa che tutto ciò mi avrebbe sostenuto perché dalla mia parte.
Mi scoprivo così a contemplare l’acqua, un terreno fluido su cui mi dovevo in qualche modo muovere, dove non ci sono certezze, o almeno così sembra… eppure qui mi sentivo così comoda e, a ben guardarla nella sua trasparenza e calma apparente, mi ci rispecchiavo totalmente.
Mi trovavo, credo a questo punto non per caso, su un pontile vicino ad un amico cigno, io in una direzione e lui in un’altra: sembravamo farlo apposta, non si sa se per modestia o per vanità,�eppure qualcuno, molto gentilmente, mi ha fatto notare che anche se apparentemente andavamo in due direzioni opposte�eravamo pur sempre due cigni!
Ed è solo allora che, finalmente sicura�del mio aspetto, dei miei dubbi e delle mie scelte, e fiera nelle mie piume di tulle, mi sono sentita nuovamente libera e sono andata a danzare in riva all’acqua azzurra: felice anche perché, finalmente, mi sono sentita al mio posto.
Questi paesaggi rappresentano i passaggi della mia trasformazione: sono stati�talvolta dolci, talvolta burrascosi, talvolta irruenti, talvolta sorprendenti, sempre carichi ma fondamentali.
Ringrazio l’Universo questa grande opportunità che si chiama Vita nella quale ora, finalmente, mi sento libera di essere me stessa.

Two wonderful days!
Quando Ugo mi ha contattato per creare delle immagini insieme, si è dimostrato fin dal primo momento un professionista attento ad ogni dettaglio. Le parole che ci siamo scambiati all’inizio, dai�minuziosi dettagli sugli outfit agli aspetti più interiori ed emozionali dei suoi viaggi fotografici, unite alla sua chiarezza e gentilezza, hanno fatto sì che già dopo pochi giorni mi stessi organizzando per partire e raggiungerlo a Como.Qui�ho passato due splendide giornate, che sono letteralmente volate tra una location e l’altra. Ugo ha avuto la capacità di mettermi subito a mio agio e, pur avendo lui le idee molto chiare sul da farsi, mi ha lasciato moltissimo spazio e libertà nella mia espressione. E’�stato bellissimo dialogare in�continuo movimento con questo artista a tutto tondo.
I luoghi che mi ha proposto sono unici, ricchi di spunti e suggestioni in cui ci siamo da subito immersi�con una perfetta sintonia e complicità.
Quando, dopo pochissimo tempo, ho ricevuto le nostre numerosissime immagini, sono rimasta piacevolmente sorpresa nel riconoscermi in ogni singola sfaccettatura e, praticamente, in tutte le immagini che mi ha inviato. E’ raro che mi capiti�di poter utilizzare tutto il materiale ricevuto senza voler eliminare niente: grazie all’intensità, unicità ed attenzione al dettaglio che riconosco in ogni immagine, in questo caso, non ho scartato neppure un’immagine.
Sono fermamente convinta che Ugo abbia “qualcosa in più” che lo rende molto originale nel lavoro fotografico.
Il suo sguardo profondo sulla modella e sulla persona�va perfettamente a braccetto con la sua indiscussa artisticità, riesce a creare immagini potenti e poetiche.
In poche parole non vedo l’ora di tornare a Como per lavorare nuovamente insieme ad Ugo ed avventurarci verso qualche nuova sfida e terreno inesplorato!

About ?the Collector Boxes
How I got here
At the beginning of 2023 I received an email from Amazon stating that my books were violating their content guidelines. After almost two years I was using their service they decided that my material became inappropriate and offensive!This was just another challenge for me as I was forced to find a new way to publish my work.
I must say that, at the beginning of my publisher history, the main goal of my publications was to promote the diffusion of images on paper.
Everything started with the nudeartzine.com project, where I was publishing images created by other artists I discovered on the Internet.
Being forced to find a new way to produce prints made me see everything from a different perspective – to create quality artistic nude imagery requires a lot of energies, efforts and skills. The resulting work deserves to be printed on fine art paper using quality inks rather than by a print-on-demand service, no matter what the content is.
Luckily I’m now able to produce prints without having to depend on anyone else, controlling the entire process and the quality of the final product. It took another year from that annoying email but the whole situation made me grow and I love to grow!
The Collector Boxes are the first way I thought about how to present prints. I have more ideas in the pipeline so, if you like my work, be sure to subscribe my Collectors Newsletter. From now on, all my publications will be produced in an artisanal way: this make me somehow feel like photographers of the past, when using analog cameras they had to print to be able to see their work.
It took time and energy but I’m proud to be finally releasing the first publication entirely produced in my studio!
Limited editions
Each Collector Box is produced in a limited edition: every time an edition is sold, the price goes up and, once all editions are gone, there will be no way to get another one.The opaline
The opaline paper used to separate each print has different purposes.First of all it is needed to slow down the fruition: we live in a world that travels too fast and the images presented here demand the observer to focus, concentrate and find a meaning – this is not Instagram!
Then, by printing a detail of the underlining image, when you open each image you get a kind of 3D experience, enhancing overall the fruiting of the image itself.
Finally the opaline paper protects each print.
Gloves
I was initially considering to include a pair of gloves in each box but it was a great complication as we all have different sizes. Moreover good quality gloves are not cheap, making the overall price of the box much higher.Prints are sensitive to the oils always present on the skin.
After you remove the opaline paper from an image, you should take extreme care to avoid touching the printed area: I suggest you carefully wash your hands before handling the prints. You might use also use disposable gloves as the ones used in hospitals, these can offer a better grip than low quality cotton gloves.
Passepartout
One of my dreams is to have my prints hung on the walls of houses all over the world. If you like to frame one of the prints included in this box, you will find a passepartout that perfectly fits an A4 (21x29,7 cm.) frame.If an Instax print is included, it is also mounted on a thick paper that can be used to frame it in an A4 frame.
Images in this box were created to inspire and to be alive: I suggest you to buy at least one frame and, every now and then, change the image.
Alternatively, you can get more frames and create an area on one of your walls with your own sequence and choice of images: by doing this, you will extend my artistic process and give it your own perspective making my work truly alive!
I usually mount my images on IKEA frames as they are designed by professional designers and have a good value for their price. I do not use the supplied “glass” as it add reflections to the image, totally changing the emotion of prints printed on matte paper.
You should know that IKEA changes their catalog every few months so, when you find a frame that you like, I suggest to buy some extra ones: there will always be an opportunity to use it in the future – www.ikea.com
Certificate of authenticity
Each box is supplied with a dry stamped certificate of authenticity that includes information about the edition, print date, etc.Each print is signed on the back using a special green ink.
Instax prints, if included, are signed with a pencil on the front below the image.
About the Histoires series
The Collector Box series starts with “Histoire de G” but it will not be only about the “Histoires” project.I’m planning to continue publishing the work of other artists – more info at nudeartzine.com – as well as other series I produced.
Each of the publications in this “Histoires” series comes with an original Instax print. This makes each edition even more unique.
